This time for the Student runner up for the Social Impact Category at Core77 Design Awards 2020, won by our third year , B.Des. Humanising Technology students, Arushi Shukla, Damiya Jaswani and Shweta Mandwale for the project titled, “Magnetic Tiles/Cement to aid the visually impaired” The selection was from a pool of entries from over 49+ countries.
The jury panel consisted of Rebecca Hui, Founder of Roots Studio. Joining her on the panel were Antionette Carroll, Founder, President & CEO of Creative Reaction Lab, Daanish Masood, Political and Peace Building Lead at the United Nations, and Kotchakorn Voraakhom, Founder & CEO of Porous City Network.
The winning team of the QED 2020, a competition by Anant National University are our students of the B. Des Humanising technology program, Anuya Desai and Preshita Deshmukh. Their sustainable fashion project titled ‘Circular Fashion’ aims to integrate circularity in fashion by encouraging users to utilize their clothing for longer, instead of constantly purchasing.
This project was chosen from 100+ entries from across India through three tough rounds of elimination. The jury panel consisted of Architects Anubha Kakroo and Amit Gulati as well as Sustainability Champion Miniya Chatterji.
The competition aimed to give solutionists a platform to showcase work, that is innovative and sustainable in social and environmental areas. This winning project was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 75000
Our students of Humanising Technology program win yet again! The Team Fireflies reached the TOP 3 Winners at Social Impact Challenge (SIC) 2019-20 in the Dream Awards 2020 event. They were competing with 15 teams across 10+ renowned colleges of Mumbai to uplift bring a change in the social enterprise industry of Maharashtra, India.
The jury at Dream Awards 2020 comprised of 07 esteemed educators, deans, nationwide social impact workers, entrepreneurs, consultants and founders of various firms. Both the SIC competition and Dream Award 2020 was organized by Connecting Dreams Foundation (CDF). The competition was partnered and supported by Power Finance Corporation, Atal Incubation Centre, Rambahu Malgi Prabodhini, Keshav Shrusti Gram Vikas Yojna, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, University of Mumbai and National Service Scheme.
Our students were the top 30 finalists of the UMO Design Social Innovation Challenge, from 250+ entries from all over the world were our own team from the second-year- B.Des. Humanising technology program
The jury consisted of 7-member team consisting of esteemed designers and innovators from India and abroad.
Our students win yet again! Winners in the Game Design & Communication Design category of the D'source International Corona Design Challenge Their entries were selected from a pool of 1254 entries with over 2000 participants from 52 countries.
The jury panel consisted of around 40 designers, educators, design thinkers, and practitioners from different countries. The competition was organized by IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay, D'source, and DesignIndia.net and supported by Cumulus, International Council of Design (ico-D), World Design Organisation (WDO), Banaras Hindu University and IIT Guwahati
Congratulations to our first batch 2017-21 of B.Des(Humanising Technology). Sweeping the top positions in two categories and a special mention in the third. Three of the four teams that participated won! Students from B.Des (Humanising technology) participated in four different categories.
Dr. Mayank Vahia, former Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences, smoothly combined mathematics and design in his session "Design, Mathematics, and Symmetry" on July 7, 2022, demonstrating the beauty of symmetry and emphasising the value of mathematics. SOD students were enthralled by this insightful mix, realising the intrinsic enjoyment and depth that mathematics provides to visual aesthetics and the structure of our world.
Mr. Piyush Relan, Design Director of User Experience Design at Walmart International, addressed students on the relationship between "Good Design and Happy Customers" on July 8, 2022. The workshop delves into the complex area of user experience, providing useful insights into understanding human psychology and its critical role in creating pleasing designs.
Prof. Keyur Sorathia, Associate Professor at IIT Guwahati's Department of Design (DoD), addressed his unique initiatives and insights into "Embedded Interaction Design and Usability Engineering" in an online session on October 18, 2022. He gave the audience a view into how these components work in the industry, improving their understanding and providing a valuable perspective on HCI, ICT4D, gestural interfaces, and user research. Prof. Sorathia's knowledge demonstrated the junction between academia and practical application, giving attendees a better understanding of the field.
On February 8th, 2023, Shri. Amit B Sheth, Honorary Secretary of SVKM, inspired and motivated us in his session "In Search of a Good Life". In his pursuit of a decent life, he presented riveting stories that addressed to our hopes and goals. Furthermore, he generously gave free copies of his own works, urging us to read and seek information, nurturing a love for lifelong learning and personal improvement.
Adv. Lubna Yusuf briefed in simplified complicated ideas like patents, making them approachable and interesting for the students, in her session "Intellectual Property Rights" on March 13th, 2023. Her diverse educational background and engaging teaching approach provided an enriching experience that enabled pupils to comprehend complex subjects with ease and enthusiasm.
Mr. Pritharshv Pushkar, Creative Director, Shobiz Experiential Communications on 19th July 2021 in his session “Design for Change” laid the ground for changing visions, ideas and concepts of services and products that we consume and use every day. The speaker spoke of how our data driven reality can be tailored for our needs and how softwares and apps provide us with services. The need for designers to be flexible, and imagine solutions not for the present but for the future was stressed upon.
Mr. Rajib Chowdhury, Founder, TGC Technologies Pvt Ltd. on 20th July 2021 in his session “The role of Neuroscience of play in design” revealed a very interesting perspective on design approach – Gamification. The talk explored avenues of this much ignored trail and elucidated ways in which simple concepts of gamification led to a better user experience. The concept of octalysis was explored and its applications showcased.
Mr. Krupalu Mehta, Co-Founder, CEO, Parallax Labs on 21st July 2021 in his session “Designing for the Metaverse” had an interesting discussion on the design of Metaverse in VR & AR environment .The presentation showcased various areas where VR technology could be integral in solving problems, and how to be future ready.
Mr. Arnab Mitra, Managing Director, LIQVD ASIA WORLD WIDE Chief Executive Officer, The Digi Boxx™ on 22nd July 2021 in his session “Assetisation of Ideas” outlined the theory that the ideas we have are valuable and are our assets. The presentation showed how ideas have been movers and shakers in the industry and an interesting concept called IDO. The speaker spoke about the importance of ideas and how to evolve them in the design process.
Mr. Anand S, CEO, Gramener on 23rd July 2021 in his session “Data-driven Infographics” enlightened us with presentation on data visualisation through simple coding and macros. Mr. Anand showcased how MS Excel can become a very powerful tool in data visualisation and elucidated his presentation with various interesting and insightful examples.
Mr. Fabin Rasheed Artist, Designer, Innovator, Technologist, Adobe on 18th February 2022 in his session “Creativity and technology” shared his experiences and talked about what is General/Procedural Art and discussed about the 5 locations in the artwork having each location numerous varying elements in them, 3D models for children, Future of Animation and Digital art. The students eagerly interacted with the speakers on many aspects
Mr. Prasad Boradkar, User Research, Sustainability Lead, Google ATAP, in Mountain View, California on 25th March 2022 in his session “Beyond Anthropocentric Design” talked about Integrated Innovation and how we can do research & develop an educational program to advance nature inspired solutions, shared his experiences and discussed Human centered design, its advantages, and beyond Human centered design, Life’s principles. He also discussed about the challenges faced. The students eagerly interacted with the speakers on many aspects.
