NMIMS Deemed to be University has added to its impressive multidisciplinary lineage of imparting outstanding learning experiences, the School of Design. The nucleus of the School is to impart future-scoped Design education to prime the student to be a design professional in the emerging scenarios.

NMIMS’s School of Design is a definitive pathway for those students who harbour a creative and an artistic bent of mind while also being enthusiastic about technology. For today, the role of a designer is varied—it combines design with technology and cognitive and behavioural sciences to serve business and social needs. It entails designing communications to designing businesses. Responding to the fact that Design is much more than mere visual appeal now; but a strategy, a solution that builds business value, the school relays a trans-disciplinary approach wherein design is crafted based on user centricity, scientific inferences and expected business outcome which is enabled or opportune digitally.

Our AICTE approved, 4-year undergraduate program, B. Des. in Humanising Technology, resolves the problem faced by young students to make a choice between their interest in art, science and technology by offering a seamless amalgam of the these streams. The program brings new focus on this aspect of ‘multidisciplinarity’—the byword in the field of design. It enables crafting product/service experiences that are delighting wherein the technology is consumable and unseen, thus ‘humanised.’

Dear Students / Parents,

Design is driven by society. The current society is ubiquitous with technology; the arising construct of culture and expectations is driving Design. The products designed are no longer only consumed but are interacted with. They are inclusive, personalised and form sustainable ecosystems to weave business stories.

The user is not limited to being an object of research but is now an active participant in the process of design. Design solutions are not singular manifestations but connected, collective experiences. The tussle between ‘virtual’ avatars and the reality is only enhanced with solutions in immersive technologies such as Augmented, Virtual, Mixed reality. The technology is required to be ‘humanised’ to be consumed. Designers now have a newer playground opportune by the congruence of technology. They are challenged with making products that are not only functional, but are seamless, integrated, interactive yet contextual experiences for the user.

The process of design thereby is more collaborative, with technologists, behaviour scientists, social scientists, managers, engineers, investors as team members. Designers can be game changers, leading with user centricity and data driven design. Our B. Des. program in Humanising technology hones the above and consolidates the best practices of experiential education with Design Technical and Design Influencing courses in a seamless, outcome centric curriculum. Facilitating design skill sets that include coding, presenting, writing, scientific inferring and business coherence. The outcome based approach nurtures in a student the essential traits of Designer character- creativity, synthesise, agility, adaptability, observation and such others. The state of art facilities and our talented faculty will challenge and nurture you to impact with design. Time spent in the tinkering in the labs will leapfrog your creativity to explore the ‘designer’ in you.
