“In last 3 years I've got to know that there's more to designing apart from sketching and aesthetic. What intrigued me is how this course is not solely focused on design but in areas which are impacted by design or impact design itself. The faculty ensures we are able to see the bigger picture when introducing a new module and it's concepts. Humanising Technology is something many people haven't heard of but when they release what the course is about, they understand how different this is from a traditional design course”.
You have to be ready to take on a lot of work. There maybe sleepless nights but at the end of the day it’s all worth it. You get to learn a lot and develop your skills. We learn through peer learning. I for example did not believe that I could come up with a good concept but my 3 years at School of Design has helped me grow and has given me the confidence that I can take up any problem and come up with an apt and lateral solution. Each assignment you get is unique and fun to work on and you get the chance to go out onto the field and get to know your target group and test your solutions that helps a great deal.
It has helped me become more confident in myself. Secondly the exposure we get and our Ngo Interact module and internships are helping us get a good exposure of the industry. Even the guest lectures and workshops we have given us students opportunities to connect with potential employers and gain access to what is expected in the industry. NMIMS helps you stay relevant while giving you the creative freedom to make a difference through your designs.
Nothing in life that is worth, comes easy. Life in School of Design teaches you to embrace challenges, fight hard and push the limits of your mind every single day, until it becomes a part of who you are. In the time that I have been here so far, I have felt inspired, I have felt motivated, I have felt defeated, I have struggled but have always emerged with a sense of victory because of the plethora of things I have gotten to learn and experience.
This course is a complete experience, which requires dedication of one’s mind and body for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It could be challenging, but the plethora of things you can explore and learn and the opportunity to find out who you are makes it all worth it.
The way we are taught to create designs here , is to research and define problems and create solutions of the form, that is best suited to the problem. These solutions could range from anything under the sky, whether it is product design, graphic design, packaging, UI/UX, AR/VR etc. We are equipped with adequate skills to solute in all these forms and also are given an opportunity to explore these design pathways. This has helped me discover what kind of design would I like to pursue in the future and pick a masters course that would be the most suitable for me.
NMIMS, School of Design offers a creative yet structured approach for addressing challenges. How can we solve a problem beyond the basic understanding is what the educational body provided us with, by teaching us Design Thinking. The core of our course is to understand the people and their needs. The Institute encourages us to brainstorm and prototype and test our concepts to validate whether or not we have been able to solve the problem and if we don’t get the desired result, there is a vast scope of improvement that can be identified through the methods that we have learned and practiced in the last three years to transform them into real world solutions.
"What new will I learn today?", is the question I ask myself every morning before coming to college. This is a place where each day is a new experience and invites compelling challenges. The enthusiastic faculty members make the subjects fun and interesting. They are approachable and never fail to guide us through the right path. Knowing about new and interesting technologies, along with problem solving methods makes the course really interesting and drives curiosity to learn more. As I stepped into my internship, I felt a sense of compatibility with the industry due to the course structure that includes practical aspects of the design. I am extremely thankful for the endless opportunities that I have got from this school that have transformed me to the person I am today.
"Life at School of Design is challenging. It might sound difficult, but that’s the change that it has made in me. Everything that we do here is with a certain intent. It’s the exciting state between fear and opportunity. Sometimes it’s success or failure but all the time we learn something or other. Design education is one thing, but School of Design has been a life changing experience for me.
This course offers variety in a new way for a Design course. The journey so far has been a good one and has boosted my confidence. Every lecture is like a stepping stone to that particular module, this can be realised at the term-end. Doing work together has never been so much fun and this course has given the opportunity to communicate effectively in a group as much as it has taught me skills. The facilities provided are the best in class and never are compromised for any reason."
"I am very glad that I have pursued the Bachelor of Design (B. Des) course at the School of Design, NMIMS. The teaching orientation is by mentoring towards skill enhancement and closest professional experience unlike the exam oriented teaching in other institutions. The faculty and the visiting faculty who are industry professionals collaborate to encourage practical learning and nourish the talents nearest to the industry requirements. ”
NMIMS School of Design is the perfect path which grooms one for the professional design world. The entire course is based on learn by doing which also encourages collaborative learning. The mix of a great faculty, excellent course, comfortable environment and students from diverse backgrounds makes this experience all the more exciting. The course allows you to be creative but also makes you think of the relevance of the solution. With the teachers' guidance and support we create things that we otherwise could never imagine creating. Constant encouragement and positive criticism allows us to open up our mind and look at things differently. Somehow, even with the rigorous curriculum and professional atmosphere, School of Design feels like home.

The last two years at NMIMS School of Design have been far from unproductive. Each day is filled with exciting opportunities where we ‘Learn by Doing’. This holistic curriculum trains us for the industry from the beginning by involvement in internships, competitions and conferences. The faculty’s sincere efforts to guide us along with the enriching environment of the school, never fails to engage us and keep us motivated to do our best. This experience has had a great impact on my personality and boosts my curiosity to learn more each day.
Studying at NMIMS School of Design has been a great experience for me since the very first day. With every new day, we work with new challenges. The curiosity of what next never dies! The faculty not only guides us through all our work from the beginning, but also encourages and enables us to think and work independently. The motto of ‘learn by doing’ has facilitated us to become more agile as designers. Despite being an introvert for most of my life, I was helped to come out of my bubble by all my professors and colleagues. It has really helped me put forward my ideas and be an active part of group discussions. This college has not only helped me acquire design sensibilities through its extensive course but has also immensely contributed to my overall growth. The grooming and confidence instilled in me by the college will surely last a lifetime of challenges ahead of me!
"The multi-disciplinary course structure of NMIMS School of Design challenges the creative growth of an individual, by pushing the limits of one’s comfort zone. In these 2 years, I have evolved as a better critical thinker, which also had an impact on my personal life. Every lecture which I attend, exposes me to new perspectives and plethora of ideas to ponder upon. Also, the spacious classrooms facilitate skill development and make the process of collaboration easier."
The growth as a result of this course has been exponential for me. This has not only helped me achieve my optimum level of productivity but has also exposed me to newer and novel ways of thinking. The speed at which this course operates is incredibly exciting enabling us to learn a lot more in lesser time. Every day is a new challenge that keeps us on our toes. Our nascent years start with building the right foundation and thus there is due importance given to our learning. We, from the beginning, are encouraged to follow and document our process, as it plays a key role in helping us to churn out creative ideas efficiently. We are encouraged to roll our sleeves up and get our hands a little dirty before we come to solutions, making us sensitized to the user's needs in the process. In turn, making us better at understanding people and the world around us. Our journey in design is accompanied by valuable industry exposure and professionalism. The best part about an education like this is that we have the freedom to work and explore the causes we are passionate about, in turn, making the whole experience valuable to us.
If you want to be a designer aspiring to create innovative solutions through creative thinking that shall impact people’s lives, then NMIMS School of Design is the place to be. With a visionary approach towards designing the school shapes you to be a creator to inspire change and not only cater to aesthetic sensibilities.
At School of Design, the assignments are based on real life problems which help in understanding how to solve with realistic constraints and scenarios in mind which is a necessity for design careers. The holistic and diverse curriculum helps us in attaining many new skill sets that make us adaptable and agile while working on different projects
Studying at NMIMS School of Design will change your perspective at looking at things. It will enhance your and develop you as a person. Personally, I have grown to be confident individual in these two years of my time. I have learnt to look at things differently, analysing and questioning the things that I saw all my life but could never figure out why.
As you near finishing the foundation years, you are exposed to more and more of the real-world conditions and ethics which are very important for a designer. Internships at the beginning of the third year would provide experience and exposure. Design has a major role in creating an impact on people and their lives.

My first year at NMIMS School of Design has been a one-of-a-kind experience. It has broadened my perspective and changed the way I perceive things around me. This course focuses on all the aspects required by an efficient designer and the curriculum is structured accordingly. The faculty is approachable and encouraging and are industry professionals who give us their complete guidance on our projects. The facilities are excellent and allow us to have a hands-on learning experience that inculcates the skills required in the industry. Collaborative learning, great faculty and excellent facilities makes the environment fun for learning. Every day here is a new challenge and learning never stops.
“The School of Design is all about innovation and hands-on learning. The past months spent at the School of Design have been one of the most intense times (work wise), and complete fun because I was not alone. The school’s curriculum is designed in such a way that it gives a lot of emphasis on team-work and collaboration, which is an important aspect of this course because it prepares us for the industry. Our course ‘Humanising Technology’ means, designing to make technology accessible, usable and delightful to the users. The school achieves it by not only focusing on the technical subjects but also by giving an equal amount of importance to the subjects of sociology and psychology. Lastly, I would like to say that coming to this school was one of the better decisions of my life.”
"In the short period that I've been at NMIMS School Of Design, I could sense a considerable development in not only my design sense but also my ambitions and attitude towards life. The curriculum is carefully crafted to holistically nurture you in a professional environment that exposes you to the industry in a true sense. The School breathes life into an unshackling framework that facilitates the process of setting your own set of principles in a world that awaits you. Proficient faculty serves as an unwavering symbol of inspiration that revitalizes your spirit. These invigorating elements backed by avant-garde facilities thus sculpt ambitious designers with firm ideals."
Life at School of Design is all about learning by actually doing it. I'm learning something new and different everyday. I really enjoy the practical way of learning which is different from the learning approach normally a school follows.
I would like to share how School of Design is all together a different design school because it mixes design with technology and subjects like sociology. Seeing how everything connects with one another, even though taught separately, makes the course interesting along with a supporting faculty.
Already being in the first year, I have learnt about various aspects of design along with subjects like business communication. I'm looking forward to using technologies such as VR in design solutions which helps to shape my career as I would be up to date in the field of design after completing my four years. The course will ultimately not only enhance my thinking and skills but also help me to pitch an idea forward in the society.
